Tower Engineering, Inc. provided HVAC, Electrical, Technology, Plumbing and Fire Protection engineering services for the new Life Sciences Building at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. This 2-story building consists of shared study spaces, offices and labs for nursing, health science, biology, microbiology and chemistry. This building is connected to Smith Hall, the main science building.

HVAC systems included gas heat, variable air volume with VAV box, a high efficiency condensing gas water heat heating plant and self-contained DX cooling plant. Ventilation included energy recovery and CO2 sensors, along with DDC controls and science lab exhausts.

The electrical design included a new underground utility service, a 480/277 3 phase switchboard, natural gas generator, new voice fire alarm, telecommunication cabling and lighting design. The lighting design included daylight harvesting and exterior lighting.

The plumbing design included central domestic water heater, gas with storage, water efficient fixtures, extra metering, infrared battery faucets and flushvalves. Some specialties include elevator sump pumps, compressed air vacuum, emergency eye wash safety shower, specialty gasses to labs, lab waste and vent system. A traditional wet fire protection system was also installed.
