Tower Engineering, Inc. provided HVAC, Electrical, Technology, Plumbing and Fire Protection engineering services for the Student Achievement Center at Westmoreland County Community College. Formerly Founders Hall, this central building serves many purposes for the campus and includes classrooms, faculty offices, the student success center, and the enrollment center.
The building’s HVAC system design now includes gas heat rooftop units with variable air volume, VAV boxes with hot water reheat, a high efficiency condensing gas hot water heating plant, and new automatic temperature control system.
The electrical design includes a new underground utility service and 480/277V, 3 phase switchboard, a natural gas generator, lightning protection system, and a new voice annunciation fire alarm. New AV systems include emergency notification, clocks, classroom AV, video messaging boards, and sound masking. Tower Engineering also provided the design of the telecommunications infrastructure. A full security system, including surveillance and card access, was also designed.
The plumbing design includes an electric domestic water heater with storage, automatic hard-wired faucets and flush valves, and elevator sump pumps. A traditional wet fire protection system was provided throughout the remaining building.
