Sewickley Academy, Sewickley, PA
K-12 /

Tower Engineering Inc. provided HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection engineering services for the Sewickley Academy Oliver Science Building. This project includes a new colonnade, entrance, classrooms, outdoor terrace classroom, flex spaces for students to study, and 1,100 square feet of new lab space, including a robotics lab.

The HVAC design includes rooftop units with gas heat and variable air volume boxes. A standard efficiency gas hot water heating plant with variable speed pumping was installed along with CO2 sensors and DDC controls. The heating plant was sized to allow for its use in an adjacent building.

The electrical design includes a new main distribution panelboard, a natural gas emergency generator mounted on the roof, a new fire alarm system, and lighting. AV systems were designed for all
classrooms along with telecommunication cabling.

The plumbing and fire protection design includes a domestic gas water heater with storage, manual and battery-powered infrared faucets and flushvalves for water closets, lavatories, and sinks, and an acid neutralization tank. Due to the inclusion of lab space, special safety shower and eyewash units were installed.
