Rice Avenue Middle School | Tower Engineering, Inc.

Tower Engineering, Inc. provided HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection, and Technology engineering services for the Girard School District Rice Avenue Middle School. This project included a
17,000 square foot classroom addition and a full renovation of the existing building to accommodate the district’s growth.

The HVAC design includes rooftop units, fan-powered boxes, a 4-pipe vertical unit ventilator, a high efficiency condensing gas hot water heating plant with glycol, and an air-cooled chiller cooling plant with glycol. CO2 sensors and DDC controls were also
included.

The electrical design includes a new underground utility service, a 3-phase switchboard, a diesel emergency generator, interior and exterior lighting, and lightning protection. AV systems were designed for all classrooms as well as special systems for the
cafeteria and gymnasium, a school intercom system, and clocks. Technology design included telecommunication cabling, card access control, and surveillance systems.

The plumbing and fire protection design includes a central domestic gas water heater and manual faucets/flushvalves for the water closets, urinals, lavatories, showers, and sinks. Some special design features include a grease interceptor in the kitchen dishwashing area and water efficient features. A traditional wet fire protection system and fire pump were also installed.
